It is in the August – December season where different species of sea turtles such as the Turtle Golfina, the Turtle Prieta, the Turtle Laúd and the Turtle Carey spawn their offspring on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta.
Currently the arrivals of these turtles begin from the month of July, where the females are the ones that return to land to spawn.
Their bodies are designed to move in the water nimble but when they are on land to nest their eggs, they can be very slow and difficult for them. In general the process takes two to three hours and can deposit about 100 eggs.
The challenge for the offspring is the journey between the nest and the sea, as they must avoid predators such as birds and iguanas. Once released they will spend at least 8 years before returning to the beach that saw them born and this is a characteristic that is only observed in the Turtles Golfinas.
Sea turtles are endangered species and can live from 50 to 80 years in the wild. Experience the impressive turtle release experience at our hotels at the Plaza Pelicanos Club Puerto Vallarta Hotel.
